Andrew Modin came from Sweden, apprenticed under a Minnesota blacksmith, and filed a homestead claim nine miles south of Kenmare in 1899. The shop he built to serve his neighbors still stands here, with its original forge, its anvil, and the tools of a trade that kept every farm in the area running.
Pioneer Village is preserved entirely by gifts from people who love it. Your contribution keeps all twenty-four buildings standing, the grounds open, and the programs running for the children who visit each spring.
